One of the venues we are most experienced with photographing is The Ringling Museum in Sarasota, Florida. People travel from all over the world to visit this beautiful, historic, and elaborate property and we are lucky to live just 15 minutes away!
There are two main areas you can have your wedding at The Ringling. The Museum of Art Courtyard and The Ca’ d’Zan terrace. Don’t ask me to choose favorites, because I can’t!
The Ca’ d’ Zan is a Mediterranean revival residence adjacent to Sarasota Bay. Cà d’Zan was built in the mid-1920s as the winter retreat of the American circus mogul and art collector John Ringling and his wife Mable. The name Cà d’Zan means “House of John” in the Venetian language and in Italian it would be “Casa di Giovanni”.
The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art courtyard is defined by three, U-shaped colonnades that have an architectural hint to the Procuratie surrounding St. Mark’s Square in Venice. The statues along the balustrade are reminiscent of St. Peter’s Square in Rome. The garden is adorned with reproductions of classical sculptures. And the pink color is an individual flare of architect John Phillips who finished this Renaissance structure in 1927. It is magnificent. You will feel like you have walked into a grand Italian piazza. One of the benefits to having your wedding here, is the rain plan. You can choose between several amazing different ceremony locations if you choose to get married at The Ringling Museum. The center of the courtyard, under the pink loggias, on the terrace of the Ca’ d’Zan, the front of the Ca’ d’Zan, or under the banyan trees.
Something unique to The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art Courtyard wedding is the opportunity for all of your guests to go in and view the beautiful art gallery (usually during cocktail hour for 1 hour). They also allow the couple to take photos inside if you have your wedding there, which is the only time they allow any photography inside of the museum!
Cocktail hour on the terrace of the Ca’ d’Zan is truly a magical experience for you and your wedding guests.
